Pirate Day- Knocks my Boots Off!

Talk like a Pirate Day is quickly becoming one of our favorite... Quick there is still time to release your inner "R"!

I went out in public dressed like a six foot pirate woman (everybody stared- some people even took pictures without asking....)! I would have just looked like a cool mom with all her little pirate crew, but alas they all kept losing their clothes (it was quite hot!) and there I was a lone shipwrecked pirate.

The mismatched shoes is definitely a pirate thing right? Well no... we just couldn't find the match and we had to wear the awesome skull boots! Also check out the eye  patch. We just used sunglasses that had a lens knocked out, because I knew he wouldn't keep an eyepatch on. This worked wonderfully and I came up with it myself! (Who needs Pinterest?! I am Pinterest!!)

Aren't these girls just the cutest pirates.  Paisley had little skulls on her shorts and carried our treasure map!

So how to get your very own doughnuts?!!!

Krispie Cream gives you a doughnut for talking like a pirate and better yet if you dress up you get a free dozen glazed doughnuts! Which is great!!! -Except there were four of us and now we have four dozen doughnuts!!

I think it is important to have times in life when there are no limitations. Like Pirate day and Halloween. To be able to indulge in all you can eat hot and fresh doughnuts, because it is "living" and makes eating healthy bearable. ;)
Next we tried our hand at geocaching.. EPIC FAIL!! We finally gave up when I realized the m at the end of 13,826 probably meant miles. Kids were good sports though and we did find a bug on an old hot dog stuffed inside this hole in the tree. TREASURE indeed!

Next time I will just need to hide my own geocache....

We instead played at the slide park, and went to watch dad play ultimate frisbee where we read books in the shade and Daph traded her pirate costume for shades and declared herself a princess. Shane's smiling friends thought he was married to a ship wrecked Pirate for sure.

Love KS

Promise I Clean All The Time

I was upstairs doing my hair when my kids came running upstairs all excited. "Mom we have a surprise, but you have to keep your eyes closed til you see it." After much persistence I set down the hair products and followed the kids downstairs. This was the view I saw when I opened my eyes. "Look mom, we DECORATED!!! I had to thank them for distributing little bits of everything in our house into one location. "Looks great..."

Came across this in our living room. They stacked together so many things. Even the bathroom step stool and the piano bench. When asked why they said, "Paisley was getting our crayons!" Really?! guys that is quite a barricade when there are so many other easier options.

Favorite Letter "H"

While learning their letters for some reason both of my kids have fixated on the letter H. I remember Daphney putting H's on every fence post and I thought someday I am going to miss that.
Well not anymore captain H is back!
There are H's everywhere!!

RIP Cherry Tree

So as soon as we bought our house we had a dream of cherry trees so we planted two and this summer one tree already died so we had to chop it all up...

Daphney and Demitri were all excited about the big stick,
Daphney- "Mom we can use this for smores!"
Demitri- "OR fighting!!!"

Dominoes

So people keep asking how I made my decision not to send Daphney to a free preschool. I mean yes it is hard to say "no" to free! And it is difficult to explain so I often I just want to give the easy answer- that my kids are simply too fun! I am keeping her home to play games with me is not really the reason but it is funny how true it is even if not the initial reason.

This is a picture of Daphney and I playing dominoes where we were trying to find the threes and we just kept drawing and drawing and for the longest time we could not draw a three to save our lives.

Cute picture not a cute story:

I had a lot of patience while teaching her and I let her self discover correlating colors and patterns trying to let her be in charge of her learning. Problem is she is now becoming good and deciding stupid moves and strategies that don't make since; like focusing on one impossible domino that "has to" be played next so even though she has other ones that can be played she would rather draw! And she has to show me her whole collection of doubles all the time. I am a terrible mother and hate knowing what dominoes they have because I like to crush my kids in games and when I know how to let them win my conscious gnaws at me and that is annoying.
This time she began to parade her ridiculous collection of doubles that was sure to beat me and i asked her not to in which I got the age old question of "WHY?".
"-because that is cheating; just go please!"
"What is cheating?"
"It is nothing.... Just not honest for me to see your tiles and makes it not as much fun for us. Okay, just play now!"

That was the end of that and yes she did win again using some crazy strategy but with no more flashing of her GREAT dominoes.
After the game my daughter stole a cookie off of the oven that I had told her not to eat and then lied about it. We had to sit down and have a talk about the importance of not lying even when we have accidents or are thoughtless. I reinforced the need to be honest no matter what happens and to my amazement she quickly responded "but mom you are not honest! Remember mom you cheated?!"
